since a lot of people told me they really liked my English posts, I’ll try to write more posts in English. A lot of German friends told me that they enjoy reading in English because they can improve their English and that made me so happy! And other than that my American friends can understand and read what I write when I write in English and a lot of them told me that they enjoy reading my posts as well, so here we go.
Let me tell you about my first Thanksgiving: First of all, it was PERFECT! But let’s start from the beginning.
For those of you that didn’t know, we’re a whole week off school because of Thanksgiving Day so there’s a lot of time to prepare all the food and decorate the house. We started on Tuesday when we bought the traditional turkey and other stuff and ingredients for the well-known Thanksgiving Dinner. Everything that we had was (of course) turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes casserole, gravy, green beans and brussel sprouds. I never had brussel sprouds before so I tried it this day and it’s really good! Turkey isn’t really common in Germany, because unfortunately we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving there. Next year back in Germany I really want to celebrate at least like a Friendsgiving, a Thanksgiving with my friends.
Oh and I shouldn’t forget about the pies that we had for dessert: traditional Apple Pie and Chocolate Chess Pie, two beautiful pies! But anyways, we cooked and baked all day Wednesday and Thursday morning and then we had dinner around 4:30 on Thursday. After that we went outside for a walk which was really nice because it was around 25 degrees celsius outside and I think after eating so much that was the perfect thing to do.
After the walk we ate the dessert and then just relaxed together. After that day I can definetely say that I couldn’t imagine having a better Thanksgiving, especially in this perfect host family!
Another thing that we did was the Gangsgiving at my friend Gigi’s house, which was basically a Thanksgiving with friends instead of family. I really enjoyed that and I’ll steal the idea and do that next year too (if you read that Gigi, I hope you’re not mad ;-)).
Now just a short update: Changing my family here was definetely the right decision and I feel so much better living with my new host family. Of course I really appreciate everything my old family did for me and I really enjoyed living with them but I just think that it wasn’t meant to be.
I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving and everybody that didn’t celebrate it, I hope you had a great week and a great weekend!
See you soon,
